The Zhengzheng Rishang New Year Run started in 2015 and is held every 1 January at the SAIC International Circuit. After six years it was Shanghai’s largest New Year road race.
Under the pandemic limits the field was 6,000.
Three thousand started the 5.4 km fun run at 8:30, and three thousand started the 21.6 km race at 10:30.
Wang Hongwei won in 1:07:45, breaking his own course record of 1:07:54, and took a third title at the race.
Zhang Xinyan defended the women’s title in 1:13:20, ten seconds faster than the year before. Li Meizhen was second in about 1:16.
