Chongqing Marathon, a double gold-label race, finishes the 2020 edition

On 15 November 2020 the Chang’an Chongqing Marathon finished on Nanbin Road. Li Bo won the men’s marathon in 2:23:15 and Xiang Fuzhao won the women’s in 2:58:53.

COVID-19 moved the race from 22 March to 15 November and cut the field from 30,000 to 4,900 local residents: 4,000 in the marathon and 900 in the 5 km.

In ten years it grew from the first full marathon in western China into a double gold-label and World Marathon Majors candidate event. The 2020 edition dropped the half marathon. The riverside course was smoothed so runners could race it properly.

Because only Chongqing residents could start, the organizers opened a 2020 online run so others could follow the live broadcast.

From 2017 to 2019 it was in the People’s Daily Online top ten for influence and brand value.
