Road racing in mainland China kept growing in 2019. There were 1,828 mass events, 247 more than 2018, up 15.62%. Finishers reached 7.1256 million, up 1.2956 million, or 22.22%, from 5.83 million. The Chinese Athletics Association certified 357 events, 18 more than in 2018. Certified events accounted for 4.2391 million finishers, 59.49% of the total, up 577,500, or 15.77%.
In 2019 World Athletics labelled 24 marathons: 12 gold, 2 silver and 10 bronze. Races were held in 31 provinces, regions and cities. Zhejiang led with 232, then Jiangsu with 185 and Beijing with 117. Of 337 cities, 300 (89%) held a mass event, and 187 held a CAA-certified event, 15 more than in 2018.
